It’s not too late to file a tax return to claim your missing stimulus money! The IRS extended the tax-filing deadline to May 17, 2021. Even after the deadline, you can still file to claim your money! If you do not owe any Federal taxes, then you can file your return after the deadline without a penalty - in fact, you have 3 years to claim your refund. If you earned less money in 2020 than you did in 2019, you are allowed to use your 2019 earnings to calculate your 2020 EITC. Be sure to have your 2019 earnings total available when you file your 2020 return.
The same thing will be true when you file your taxes for 2021. Make sure you have your 2019 earnings total when you file your 2021 return as well.
If you were eligible for the EITC for 2018 and/or 2019, it’s not too late to file your taxes to claim those credits.
You have 3 years to claim a refund. Now that the filing deadline of May 17, 2021, has passed, you can no longer claim a refund from a 2017 return.
